The Impact Florida International University Has Made on Me:

Becoming a Global Leader

Located in the bustling city of Miami, Florida International University is a global learning institution that emphasizes the importance of research and enriching the lives of the local and global community. With Miami being home to more than 150 ethnicities and 60 languages, FIU does an outstanding job catering to all different types of people from around the world under one roof. I remember reading something on FIU’s website that said “for over four decades, FIU has positioned itself as one of South Florida’s anchor institutions by solving some of the greatest challenges of our time,” and that really stuck to me as I have personally witnessed the amazing changes and impacts that FIU has made on the community both locally and globally throughout my undergraduate studies from 2015-2018, and I am beyond ecstatic that I got a chance to be a part of this momentum.
"Global learning is a personal commitment to discovery."
I am so glad that I took that leap of faith and participated in both the Global Learning Medallion as well as Peace Corps Prep throughout my undergraduate studies at FIU.  Global Learning is so much more than some classes, a few events, a trip, and a capstone experience. Global learning is a personal commitment to discovery. I transferred to FIU from Campbell University - which is located in Buies Creek, NC -  in the fall of 2015. I admit I was scared...extremely scared. I did not know what I was getting myself into as I was transferring from a small-town Christian university to an internationally-known global university. But I was excited. I had a feeling that it was going to be a great change for me. I made a promise to myself that I would put myself out there, get involved, and just be the best person that I can be,
Four years later, I am graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, along with a Women's & Gender Studies Certificate. My participation in the Global Learning Medallion Program and Peace Corps Prep is accompanied by amazing programs such as the Academy of Leaders, the Certified Student Leader Program, and the Excellence in Civic Engagement Medallion of Distinction. These programs have brought me to discover that I want to do something that can make a difference in society whether it be locally, nationally, or globally. I want to give someone a reason to keep pushing forward. My professional goals, no matter what sector I end up in, are all in the same. I want to be a part of something that I can do anywhere in the world. I want to be a globally-minded and be a socially responsible communication leader and innovator in today’s day-and-age. My goals during graduate school are simple. I would like to be involved in my community both locally, nationally, and globally, and I believe that being active in social activism is an absolutely perfect way to do it.
Thank you Florida International University for helping me become the global leader I am today.

With much love,
